Bucks, Gajewski Get 300th Franchise Win
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League shutout the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 2-0 Thursday night at the American Bank Center. The Bucks picked up their 300th franchise win, as they improve to 13-6-4 (30 points) on the season.
Kyle Gajewski picked up his first professional shutout as he stopped all 33 shots he faced as the Bucks snapped their two-game losing streak and moved back into third place in the Southern Conference.
Neil Trimm put the Bucks up 1-0 when he re-directed Eric Giosa’s shot from the point 7:54 into the third period. Trimm’s goal was his second of the season, as he missed the Bucks 11 games with a lower-body injury. The Bucks are now 9-1-3 when scoring first this season.
Darryl Smith scored an empty-net goal with 51 seconds left in the third to make it 2-0 in favor of the Bucks.
The Bucks picked up their first win of the season in Corpus (1-2).
Neither team was able to light the lamp in the first period as the game was scoreless after 20 minutes. The two teams combined for 28 penalty minutes in the first period with 21 given to the Ice Rays. The Bucks outshot the Ice Rays in the first period 11-10.
The second period was also scoreless as neither team was able to break through. Laredo was outshot in the second period 11-6.
Kevin Nastiuk stopped 29 of 30 shots he faced for the Ice Rays.
The Bucks were outshot in the game 33-31.
