Bloomington goaltender Marco Emond is off to a great start this season. He recently answered your questions in the CHL Chat Room.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST ADJUSMENT FOR A PLAYER PLAYING IN A EUROPEAN LEAGUE VS NORTH AMERICAN LEAGUE? - Zach in Minonk, IL
In Europe the play is geared towards skills, with the bigger ice surface the play isnt as physical,
but for a goaltender there is a period of adjustment with the style of play and angles somewhat
throws you off a bit
YOU HAVE BEEN A SOLID NETMINDER IN THE CHL FOR AWHILE? WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST HOCKEY MEMORY? - Tammy in Fort Collins, Co
I think of the whole 2003-2004 season with the Bucks was pretty awesome, from winning the Governor's Cup by a few miles and to win the President's cup as well was great, i think you'd ask
any members of the 03-04 Bucks squad and about everyone would have the same answer, but i will say that winning the President's Cup with the Eagles was fantastic as well, especially going thru the injuries and having to win 4 rounds made it special as well
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST "LESSON" SINCE YOU WERE THE GOALIE FOR LAREDO A FEW YEARS BACK? - Gerald in Spearman, Tx
In the world of hockey most people will say there’s gonna be ups and downs, or we cant win them all !!! but i say: Every game you play is an opportunity to win, and what if you took that opportunity
every time??? In Laredo we ended up 48-8-8, we were competing in every games! so since that season i have a different approach to games cuz no matter what... tonight's game is winnable!!!
MARCO, KNOWING THAT BLOOMINGTON IS HUNGRY FOR A WINNING TEAM AND MAKING THE POST SEASON DOES THAT PUT ANY MORE PRESSURE ON BEING A GOALIE FOR THE PRAIRIE THUNDER? - Josh in Eureka, IL
Every season we as players we want to be in a winning team, there is the pressure of individual performance of course, but i think It is unfortunate that the Prairie Thunder didn't have a winning season in the IHL, but this is the team's first season in the CHL and as far as im concerned its a clean slate, there's lot of leadership in the actual locker room and we are proud to be in Bloomington and we the players, coach and the organization altogether will strive to make this new member club a winning one!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A YOUNG GOALIE ON PLAYING TRAVEL ICE HOCKEY? - Justin in Minden, LA
At 14 its time to get stronger in the gym, i wish i could go back and do some things differently and also ask my parents to make me a couple of inches taller but that’s beside the point lol, I would recommend watching NHL goaltenders on tv and notice the little things and pickup on tricks to gain a fraction of second of speed! Also having a goalie coach would help, someone that knows the position to keep you in check! Lastly, to keep yourself worry free, not all goalies need to be
superstitious or edgy, if anything that behavior hinders you
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO COME TO A SMALL COMMUNITY AND PLAY FOR THE BLOOMINGTON THUNDER? ALSO WHAT DO YOU THINK OF COACH CHRISTI? - Jim in Bloomington, IL
A) I guess i like small communities cuz ive played in a few of them such as Elmira Ny, Prescott Valley Az etc.. A place like Bloomington is a perfect size town to where players are well known and aside from hockey can impact the community thru schools, hospitals and such... Its a nice place.
B) I told coach if he wanted to know what i thought of him to read the CHL chat room lol, in all seriousness, coach Christi is the type of coach who presses on to do the little things right and work hard at getting better, he keeps the players accountable for what they do and he demands a good attitude from everyone! If i was a coach it’s the approach i would take...He has been a coach at the next level and you can tell. In my career there's a few coaches that stood out such as Terry in Laredo and Chris Stewart in Colorado, Jason Christi is there with them even if its still early in the season!
WHERE HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO PLAY AND YOUR LEAST FAVORITE? - Adam in Fort Wayne, IN
Fav: Laredo for the hockey part, weather part, coaching part and the guys were great, we had a young team but a talented and very tough one!
Least: well if you love hockey, you wont have a least place!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT PLAYING IN BLOOMINGTON AND WHY? - Jeremy in Bloomington, IL
The guys are great, i feel we are already tight, we had that 4-0 start and of course things go well then, seems like everyone is nice, but to know the guys character you need to test them in a loss, and after our loss Saturday the boys were back in practice Monday with a great attitude and great work ethic...
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR LIFE ONCE YOU ARE NO LONGER PLAYING? - April in Austin, TX
There's a few options, i did own a coffee shop back in Jackson Ms few years back, so maybe
opening something like that again, maybe coaching, i also am involved with hockey ministries which have many Pro Hockey Players teaching hockey and also ministering to kids in the summer! My dad owns a business in Quebec is another option... i guess i will see which door opens and which one closes...
