Kevin Beech Perfect Versus Sundogs

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. – The Texas Brahmas and goaltender Kevin Beech shut out the Arizona Sundogs, 4-0, Saturday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre, sweeping the season series and extending the Sundogs’ losing streak to five games.

Beech turned away all 26 shots faced and Greg Hogeboom, Jason Deitsch and Chad Woollard led the Brahmas in scoring, each collecting a pair of points in the win.

Levente Szuper, making his Sundogs debut, allowed four goals on 37 shots in the loss.

Fights spilled into the Brahmas’ player bench late in the second period as 80 total penalty minutes and six game misconducts were handed out by referee Geoff Miller. Tyler Butler exchanged punches with a Texas player in front of the Brahmas’ bench with 1:42 to play in the middle frame before the door opened and players funneled off the ice. The Sundogs’ Butler, Joey Sides, and Cam Keith and Texas’ Deitsch, Todd Griffith and Ross Rouleau each were involved in the altercation and received fighting majors and game misconducts.

Arizona carried play early in the first period holding Texas without a shot on net through the game’s first six minutes but the Brahmas responded, controlling the second half of the opening frame.

Woollard collected his fourth of the season with 1:15 to play in the period, lifting a shot over the shoulder of Szuper on a Deitsch pass across the goal mouth for a 1-0 lead.

Hogeboom opened a two-goal lead for the Brahmas midway through the second period, beating Szuper five-hole at the 8:56 mark. Deitsch and Woollard both assisted on the play for their second points of the contest.

Dan Riedel stretched his club’s lead to three just over four minutes later, sending a bad-angle shot from below the goal line off the back of Szuper with 6:43 to play in the middle frame.

Skating 4-on-4, Hogeboom notched his second of the game at the midway point of the third period, one-timing a Jason Krischuk centering feed past Szuper and extending Texas’ lead to 4-0.

The first period was delayed nearly 15 minutes as the Brahmas’ Steven Later shattered a pane of glass attempting a hit on Arizona’s John Wessbecker just over four minutes into the contest. Wessbecker spun off the check sending Later into the glass.

Neither team was able to capitalize on the man advantage Saturday. The Sundogs finished 0-for-4 on the power play while Texas was held scoreless on eight tries. The two teams combined for 178 total penalty minutes.
