Coach Chris Stewart of the Colorado Eagles has secured the coaching position for the Northern Conference All-Star team. Stewart and the Eagles supporting operations crew of Tony Deynzer (Equipment Manager) and Chris Porowski (Athletic Trainer) will join the festivities in Laredo January 10th through 12th following their 5-0 home shutout win over the Tulsa Oilers. Coupled with the Wichita Thunders 4-2 home loss to Topeka, Stewart and the Eagles will have the highest winning percentage in the conference following the completion of all games on Sunday, regardless of Saturdays Colorado at Wichita tilt. Stewart will also help select, along with the CHLs Hockey Operations staff, the non-starters for the January 12th All-Star Game. The Eagles have several strong candidates to appear in the All-Star Game, including rookie netminder Tyler Weiman, who recorded his CHL-leading 4th shutout Friday.
The Southern Conference All-Star coaching spot is still up for grabs, with San Angelos Ray Edwards and Lubbocks Chris Dashney in the running in a battle that will likely come down to Sundays meeting in Lubbock. Edwards and the Saints hold a slight advantage in winning percentage (.659 to .650) over Dashney and the Cotton Kings.
