Tulsa Oilers forward Todd Marcellus and Indianapolis Ice netminder Shawn Silver have been named the recipients of the Central Hockey Leagues Player and Goaltender of the Week awards for Week 7 of the CHL season.
Marcellus continued to provide the Oilers outstanding offense this week, scoring in three Tulsa victories. In an afternoon matinee game at Wichita November 27th, the 5-10, 185 pound speedster scored both a shorthanded and a power play goal in an eventual 6-5 overtime win. On Friday, November 28th, he again scored twice, including the game-winning goal, during a 6-4 home ice win over Fort Worth. The following night, Marcellus again scored the game winner, potting an overtime marker to give the Oilers a 2-1 overtime win at home against Wichita. Marcellus has been a major acquisition for Tulsa this season, and leads the CHL with 17 goals. His 32 points tie him for second in overall CHL scoring, and his plus/minus of +19 is second only to teammate Jamie Steers +21.
In Indianapolis, Shawn Silver has earned Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season, following back to back wins over the defending champion Memphis RiverKings. Thanksgiving Day, Silver turned aside 25 of 26 shots in a 4-1 victory, then blanked the RiverKings 3-0 the following night in Memphis, turning aside 33 shots in the process. His outstanding week has dropped his goals against average to just 1.68 and his save percentage to 94.0 %, both second in the CHL to Austins Matt Barnes. Silver is unbeaten in regulation play his last eight outings, and has a 6-2-3 season record on the season.
