A huge second period on Tuesday night lifted the Wichita Thunder (14-7-0) over the Fort Wayne Komets (13-7-0) by a score of 5-3 moving the Thunder within two points of the Berry Conference leading Allen Americans and keeping the Komets a point in back of the Evansville IceMen.
The win was the 10th home victory of the season for the Thunder who ended the Komets brief two-game win streak and six-game road winning streak.

Fort Wayne jumped out to an early advantage with first period strikes from Frankie DeAngelis and Chris Auger but just over two minutes into the second period, Alex Bourret started the comeback with his first of two goals on the night cutting the lead in half.
Wichita would tie the game with Aaron Davis’ goal eight minutes into the second period and then take the lead behind Matt Robinson’s goal at the 13:11 mark.
Tom Mele tied the game at the 7:59 mark but the Komets quickly gave it up for good just over a minute later with Thomas Beauregard goal at the 9:01 mark making the score 4-3.
Bourret’s second goal was into an empty net propelling the Thunder to the win.
Adam Russo earned the win with 24 saves and Nick Boucher saw his personal seven-game win streak snapped.
