The Allen Americans kept pace with the Wichita Thunder in the Berry Conference winning their second straight game and for the third time in their last four games as they topped the shorthanded Fort Wayne Komets by a 3-2 score in a shootout.
Josh Hepditch scored the game winner in the shootout as Allen scored three times to Fort Wayne’s two shootout goals.
The Komets were without goaltender Nick Boucher as well as Colin Chaulk and Bryant Molle (Boucher and Molle were each serving suspensions and Chaulk missed the game with an injury).
Allen broke a scoreless tie late in the second period with Colton Yellow Horn scoring his 21st goal of the season.
The Americans made it 2-0 with a strike from Trevor Hendrixx, his fifth goal of the season, and seemed to be on cruise control.
But with an admirable charge late in the game, the Komets bounced back scoring a pair of goals late and tying the game ultimately earning a point.
Jamie Lovell scored the first goal of the comeback surge and Chris Auger netted the game-tying goal with just one second remaining in regulation.
Marco Cousineau made 42 saves and was outstanding in net improving his record to 13-2-4 on the season.
Gerry Festa took the loss with a valiant effort stopping 33 of 35 shots.
