Three Things You Have to Know for Tonight – Tuesday, Mar. 20
1.) Turner Conference Clutter
Things are far from decided in the Turner Conference in not only the race for the final playoff spot, but in the seeding as well. Five points separate first place Fort Wayne from fourth place Missouri and two points separate second place Evansville from third place Rapid City. The Quad City Mallards are in fifth place and out of the post-season right now but they trial Missouri by just four points with four games remaining. The Mallards play in Dayton tonight against the Gems who they are 7-2 against this season. Rapid City hosts Bloomington for the second straight night and looks for revenge after the Blaze battled back from three deficits to beat the Rush 5-3 on Monday night.
Note: The Rush could clinch a playoff berth tonight with a win over Bloomington and a Quad City loss (regulation, OT or a shootout)
2.) Tulsa’s Quest for Perfection
The Tulsa Oilers host the Laredo Bucks tonight in a must-win game for the Oilers who are currently six points behind the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for the fourth and final playoff spot. Tulsa owns the tiebreaker with the Killer Bees and plays two more games than RGV before the end of the regular season. The Oilers need as many points as they can, at least six, and some help from the same Bucks this weekend when they play in Rio Grande Valley on Saturday and Sunday. Laredo is 1-2 on their current six game road trip to end the season and are coming off a 9-1 loss at Dayton on Sunday. Tulsa is coming off a 5-4 win over Missouri on Sunday.
Note: If the Oilers win out in their final four games, RGV would need to earn three points in their final two games to earn the final playoff spot
3.) Thunder Look to Clinch Some History
It could be a night to celebrate for the Wichita Thunder who travel to Texas to take on the Brahmas tonight in a game that could earn the Thunder not only the top spot in the Berry Conference but could earn them the Bud Poile Governors’ Cup as well. All the Thunder needs is a point in any of their final four games of the regular season to take the top seed in the Berry Conference and earn the league’s regular season title. Allen and Fort Wayne are both in need of winning out in their final four games to keep the controversy alive.
Note: The Brahmas are tied into the number three seed in the Berry Conference regardless of how they fair in their final four games
