WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder dismissed head coach and director of hockey
operations Jim Latos, owner Horn Chen announced today.
The move was made on the heels of last night's 6-2 home loss to the Tulsa Oilers, Wichita's fourth straight defeat. The Thunder currently sit in last place in the CHL's Northwest Division, with a record of 8-19-7.
Latos, a member of both the 1994 and 1995 CHL Champion Thunder teams, took over as head coach last season, guiding the Thunder to a record of 24-34-6. In a year-and-a-half behind the bench, Latos compiled a record of 32-53-13. Pending a few final details, the Thunder expect to have a replacement named by Wednesday. Travis Clayton, Wichita's all-time leading scorer and a 2003 CHL All-Star, will run Thunder practice until the new coach arrives.
The Thunder return to action on Wednesday, when they host the Fort Worth Brahmas at 7:00 p.m. Following the game, the Thunder will head to
Indianapolis for a two-game weekend set with the Ice.
