All is well in Mudbug Nation. After a frustrating week that saw the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs face player immigration delays and a pair of blown leads on the road, the club returned home Thursday night and delivered, handing visiting Laredo a 5-2 loss in the first game of the season at the CenturyTel Center. The victory came on the strength of four straight power play goals, turning a 2-0 first period deficit into a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes behind man advantage markers by Chris Brassard, Dan Wildfong and Ryan Fairbarn. Karlis Zirnis would capitalize midway through then third period, again on the power play, with Daniel Pegoraro closing out the scoring with the Mudbugs only even strength goal of the evening.
Laredos first period advantage came from goals by Patrick Murphy and Serge Dube, who returned to the site of the painful leg injury he suffered during Game 4 of last seasons Ray Miron Presidents Cup Finals.
With frustrations mounting, tempers exploded late in the third period, with numerous fights taking place, with both goaltenders involved.
Bossier-Shreveport improves to 1-1-1 on the young season, while Laredo falls to 1-1-0. The Mudbugs now move to Memphis for road games Friday and Saturday, while the Bucks enjoy a rare Friday out of action prior to their Saturday home opener, receving their 05-06 championship rings prior to their game against Rio Grande Valley.
