The Amarillo Gorillas won their second road game in as many night Wednesday in the only Central Hockey League action on the schedule, knocking off the Jackalopes by a 3-1 score in Odessa. The victory gives the suddenly surging Gorillas four wins in their last six outings, and places them just a single point behind idle Lubbock in the Southwest Division standings.
Gorilla forward Matt Miller opened the scoring 6:18, matched later in the period by Odessa's Steve Shrum, who reached double digits with his 10th goal of the season. From there on, a combination of center Jason Chafe and goaltender Shawn Conschafter took care of business for Amarillo. Chafe scored the go ahead goal with a power play marker in the second, and sealed the win with a late shorthanded empty net goal. Conschafter meanwhile improved his season record to 5-2-1, stopping 38 of 39 Odessa shots. Jackalopes netminder Mike Gorman suffered a tough loss, falling to 5-4-2 despite stopping 38 of 40 shots.
