The New Mexico Scorpions have paid a fitting tribute to former Scorpions great Randy Murphy, honoring him with a special video tribute and an induction into the Scorpions Hall of Fame during an on ice ceremony during the first intermission of their contest with the visiting Oklahoma City Blazers. The ceremony was highlighted with the raising of a Randy Murphy banner and his familiar jersey # 26 into the rafters at the Santa Ana Star Center, joining banners for fellow Scorpions stars Peter Ambroziak, Derek Crawford and Travis Van Tighem, all on hand for the event.
Murphy is now an Assistant Coach to Ray Edwards and the Scorpions, retiring after the 2005-2006 season (spent as a member of the Corpus Christi Rayz) with impressive career totals within the CHL/WPHL. Entering this season, Murph ranked 15th all-time in the CHL/WPHL in three key categories, with 509 career points, 196 career goals and 313 career assists.
