For the seventh consecutive time, the Colorado Eagles sit atop the Central Hockey Leagues Coaches Poll, earning nine first place votes, six second place votes and a single third place vote. Colorado leads the CHL with 35 wins and 70 points, looking to claim their third straight Governors Cup as CHL regular season champions.
No team outside of the Eagles, Memphis RiverKings, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and Laredo Bucks received a top three vote, with Bossier-Shreveport earning their highest ranking of the season at #3, slipping past Laredo after four straight appearances at #4.
The New Mexico Scorpions (8-1-1 in their last 10 games) also continued their upward trend, moving from #7 into the #6 slot for their best ranking of the season, while the Amarillo Gorillas (winners of five straight) also improve from #9 to #8. At #10, the Austin Ice Bats rejoin the poll for the first time since December 6th, unseating the Wichita Thunder.
Throughout the season the CHL will release the results of the Coaches Poll. Each first place selection earns 10 points, second place earns 9 points, etc. Coaches cannot vote for their own team, creating a potential perfect score of 160 points should one club receive all 16 possible first place votes.
