All three home clubs posted wins in Tuesday Central Hockey League action, with the Arizona Sundogs edging Rio Grande Valley 5-4, the Wichita Thunder outlasting Arizona 6-4 and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs slipping by Corpus Christi 3-2 in a shootout.
The Sundogs win was crucial in improving their playoff hopes, now moving three points up on the Killer Bees (and a single point ahead of Austin) and into fifth spot in the Southern Conference playoff seedings. Dmitri Leonov continued his success with a pair of goals in the win, with Cory Stillman also picking up his 24th goal of the year. David Masse enjoyed another strong game for the Killer Bees, scoring his 28th and 29th goals of the season in the loss.
In Wichita, the suddenly resurgent Thunder attacked scored six goals for the second straight game, with veteran sniper Travis Clayton providing most of the damage with a hat-trick (now with 22 goals this season) and an assist. His hat-trick came in a variety of manners, scoring shorthanded, on the power play and into an empty net to seal the win. His first goal of the night was his 300th in a Thunder uniform, becoming just the third player in CHL history to reach 300 goals, joining Joe Burton and Paul Jackson. Jason Duda also enjoyed a fine outing scoring his 18th and 19th goals of the season and adding an assist, while Dan Vandermeer moves into third place in the CHL goal scoring race with his 31st and 32nd of the year.
In Bossier-Shreveport, the Mudbugs returned home from a grueling (but highly successful) 5-1-0 road trip and needed overtime and the shootout to dispose of Corpus Christi. Daniel Pegoraro enjoyed a return to the ice for the Mudbugs, playing for the first time since suffering a nasty facial injury that cost him four teeth on Valentines Day and responding Tuesday with the shootout game winning goal and an assist on Joe Oris 15th of the year. Dan Wildfong rounded out the scoring for Bossier-Shreveport with his 17th of the season, with Jay Hardwick (3rd) and Adam Powell (13th) responding for the Rayz.
