All three home clubs posted meaningful victories Tuesday night in CHL action, with Bossier-Shreveport stopping Laredo 5-1 in a rematch of last seasons playoff finals, Colorado defeating Oklahoma City 6-1 to give the Eagles their fourth straight Northwest Division title, and Tulsa edging Memphis 5-4 in a shootout to move into a tie with idle Wichita for the last remaining Northern Conference playoff berth.
At the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, the rookie Abbott brothers continued their fine seasons by combining for four goals and eight points (two goals, two assists each for Cam and Chris) in the Mudbugs win over Laredo, despite a 36-20 shots on goal advantage by the Bucks. Goaltender John DeCaro, another quality Mudbug rookie, made 35 saves to pick up his 21st victory of the year while lowering his goals against average to 2.24 and increasing his save percentage to .930, both marks leading the CHL. Forbes MacPherson returned from injured reserve and added his 14th, while James Hiebert, in his first game back with Laredo, spoiled DeCaros shutout bid early in the third.
At the Budweiser Events Center, the Colorado Eagles celebrated the return of star forward Greg Pankewicz with a 6-1 win over Oklahoma City to capture their fourth straight Northern Conference title and at least the #2 seed in the Northern Conference playoffs. Pankewicz had a pair of assists after missing the previous 46 games, and Ed McGrane continued his fine season by scoring the first two goals of the contest and adding an assist. In net, Marco Emond came one save short of his third shutout of the year, allowing only a shorthanded tally by Dallas Flaman.
The Tulsa Oilers late season run also continued Tuesday, blowing a late 4-2 lead but coming back to win 5-4 in a shootout on David Beauregards third score of the game. After scoring his 400th pro goal on Saturday, Beauregard came back to score twice in the third period along with the shootout winner, moving into a tie for second place in the CHL goal scoring race with Youngstowns Chris Richards, both back two from leader Brent Kelly of the Arizona Sundogs. The crucial two points moves the Oilers into a tie with Wichita with 57 points while also enjoying a game in hand. Memphis, meanwhile, slips four points behind Bossier-Shreveport in the Northeast Division race but also enjoys a game in hand on the Mudbugs.
