Rage Add Scoring Punch With Wray

(Team Release) The Central Hockey League’s Rocky Mountain Rage have signed left winger Scott Wray, who posted his second straight 30-goal campaign last season when he registered a combined 37 goals and 74 points while splitting time between the Elmira Jackals (N.Y.) and Port Huron (Mich.) Flags in the United Hockey League.

Announced CHL Player Signings for 2007-2008

Wray (5-foot-11, 205 lbs.) is entering his ninth professional season and, along with Rage player/assistant coach Brent Cullaton, represented the Jackals at last year’s UHL All-Star Game. Previous to his stint in the UHL, Wray spent 4½ seasons with the Central Hockey League’s Amarillo Gorillas, which he helped lead to four consecutive President’s Cup Playoff appearances and back-to-back berths into the Southern Conference Finals in 2003-04 and 2004-05.

During the 2005-06 campaign with Amarillo, Wray generated 76 points (38g-38a) in just 52 games on his way to finishing 14th in the CHL in scoring. He was also tied for the league lead with 10 game-winning goals.
“Scott Wray is a goal scorer and a proven vet at our level,” said Rage head coach Tracy Egeland. “He’s my type of player. He plays hard, has good character, and provides leadership in the room.”

“Talking with Tracy and Cully (Cullaton), who I know real well, I know how hard they’re working to turn last year’s record around. They’re going to bring in quality players who are all committed to winning,” said Wray. “I want to be part of that…for a long time. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Rage – the arena, the way players are treated, the quality of life. I want to work as hard as I can both on the ice and in the community to keep a roster spot for the next five years and finish my career in Rocky Mountain.”

After playing junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League, Wray turned pro with the ECHL’s Birmingham (Ala.) Bulls in 1999-00. The Ottawa native has reached the 20-goal mark six times throughout his career and recorded 411 points (210g-201a) in 526 games.

He joins fellow forwards Chip Dunleavy and Cullaton as the three players officially signed by Egeland for next year.
