CHL INTRODUCES NEW FULL-TIME OFFICIALS
The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that seven (7) full-time officials have bee hired to the officiating staff for the 2007-08 season. The new officials are Jordan Crowell, Dan Dilworth, Brock Geris, Shane Nakic, Christopher Petrin, Pat Smith and Zac Wiebe. The number of full-time officials for the CHL this season will be 15.
We are fortunate to have the number of quality officials that we do, said Duane Lewis, CHLs Vice President of Operations. The CHL continues to be a development league for players and officials and we are pleased to have moved a substantial number of officials up to the National and American Hockey Leagues over recent years. The seven young men we have hired for this season posses all the intangibles that it takes to succeed and grow and we look forward to watching their development.
The CHL recently completed its two pre-season training camps for officials, one in Denver and one is Dallas. The camps give officials the chance to fine tune their focus on new rules and league mandates as well as gives them the chance to get back on the ice and physically prepared for the upcoming season.
These camps are important for the start of the season, said the CHLs Supervisor of Officials and 31-year NHL veteran Wayne Bonney. The officials need to be prepared to take the ice for opening night, and with a process of training camp and pre-season games the officials prepare themselves the same way the players do.
Several officials have been advanced to full-time NHL and AHL roles over the past few years, including most recently Fredrick LEcuyer who will work his first regular season NHL game in Toronto on October 11th after working in the CHL from 2002 to 2006.
The CHLs 544 regular season game schedule begins on Friday, October 19th with eight games scheduled.
