The Austin Ice Bats made shorthanded history on Friday night en route to their first victory of the season, 5-2 over the New Mexico Scorpions. The Bats tied a CHL record with three shorthanded goals scored by Jason Tessier, Henry Kuster and Zech Klann. Tessier finished with two goals, two assists and a team-high seven shots on goal. The other Bat goal was scored by Darryl McArthur on the power play. Special teams played a part in six of the game's seven goals.
Austin received solid goaltending in the game with Miroslav Kopriva stopping 33 New Mexico shots. Dominic Osman and Michael Kolarz scored the Scorpion goals.
