Thunder and Sundogs Exchange Forwards
The Arizona Sundogs and the Wichita Thunder made a trade today exchanging a pair of forwards. Chris Greene will head to the Thunder and Tyler Liebel will head to Prescott Valley.
The Sundogs are currently tied for first place in the Southwest Division with the Odessa Jackalopes and with the acquisition of Liebel have added depth, grit and leadership to the line-up. The 25-year-old forward has played in 190 career professional games scoring 30 goals with 84 assists and 530 penalty minutes. This season with the Thunder, the 5-10, 180-pound forward has 11 points (5-6=11) and 79 PIM’s.
“Tyler has been an offensive anchor in Wichita during his two-plus seasons with the Thunder,” said Sundogs Head Coach Marco Pietroniro. “We’re eager to get him in the lineup as we prepare for our upcoming five-game road trip.”
The Thunder have struggled in the first half of the season and will look to the energetic Greene to light a spark in the team’s efforts to move into playoff contention in the second half. The 6-2, 191-pound forward has played in 91 games for Arizona over the past two seasons scoring eight goals with 38 assists and 209 penalty minutes. The 22-year-old was a fan favorite of the Sundogs faithful and will be missed for his off-the-ice contributions.
“It’s tough to see Chris go,” said Pietroniro. “A player with the character and work ethic of Chris is always a benefit to have around. At the end of the day, it is our top priority to provide our fans with the best product on the ice and to put ourselves in position to win the last game of the season. With this roster move, that is what we’re doing. We wish Chris the best of luck and thank him for what he has brought to our club in the last two seasons.”
