Mudbugs Tie CHL Record With 15th Straight Win

15th Straight Ties CHL Record Streak

YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs tied the All-time CHL record with their 15th consecutive win Saturday night in Youngstown, beating the SteelHounds by a final score of 5-3.  The Mudbugs can break the record, set by last year's Colorado Eagles, with a win tomorrow afternoon against the "Hounds.

Joe Ori scored a pair of goals and Daniel Pegoraro had three assist as Bossier-Shreveport built a 5-0 lead and also tied a franchise record with their seventh straight road win.  Ken Carroll made 32 saves on the way to winning his 11th start in a row.

For the second consecutive night, Bossier-Shreveport jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the SteelHounds in the first period.  The Mudbugs’ first goal came on a stellar passing play on a man advantage.  Daniel Pegoraro fed Tyrel Lucas on the left wing side, who then slipped a back door pass to Joe Ori.  Ori put his 13th goal of the year into the open net to give the ‘Bugs the lead.  Just a few minutes later on another powerplay chance, the Mudbugs added the lead.  After Andy Franck stopped an Elias Godoy shot from the point, Kevin Cooper was right in front to finish off the rebound for his 16th of the season and a 2-0 Bossier-Shreveport lead after the opening frame.

In stark contrast to Friday night’s game, the Mudbugs also carried the play for most of the second period as well, limiting Youngstown ’s chances and forcing Franck to make a number of tough saves.  Ken Carroll was no slouch either, stopping Joel Irving on a breakaway in the second as well.  The Mudbugs added to their lead after Brett Smith stole the puck behind the net and centered a pass for Mike Falk, who buried his first goal as a Mudbug to make the lead 3-0 after the second period.

Early in the third, Bossier-Shreveport extended its lead even further with a pair of quick goals. Just 1:01 into the final period, Joe Ori scored his second of the night after Daniel Pegoraro blocked a shot and hit Ori with a pass one a 2-on-1 break.  Only 2:07 later, Pegoraro set up Tyrel Lucas for the Mudbugs’ third powerplay goal of the game and a 5-0 advantage.  That’s when the SteelHounds woke up and mounted their comeback.  Eric Przepiorka and Chris Richards scored powerplay goals with an even strength tally from Joel Irving in between to make the game 3-0 with just over five minutes to play.  The ‘Hounds pressured to get within a goal in the final minutes, but the Mudbugs finished off their sixth straight victory over Youngstown by a final score of 5-3.

Youngstown ’s big third period gave them the shot advantage for the game, 35-32 over the Mudbugs.  Bossier-Shreveport scored multiple powerplay goals for the sixth straight game, going 3 for 8 on the powerplay, while Youngstown was 2 for 8.

The Mudbugs and SteelHounds will meet again tomorrow afternoon at the Chevrolet Centre for the last of their nine regular season meetings this year.  The puck drops tomorrow at 3:05 pm Central time, with pre-game coverage starting at 2:45 on 1130 AM KWKH.  You can also watch the final regular season meeting for Bossier-Shreveport and Youngstown live on the CHL Network.
