Wednesday Night’s Roundup – Bucks Win Big Showdown With Rage
The Laredo Bucks (28-13-2) needed a sixth round of a shootout to finally put away the Rocky Mountain Rage (28-7-4) on Wednesday night. Laredo jumped out to an early lead but watched the Rage battle back eventually earning a point in the SOL. Andrew Desjardins scored the game winning goal in the shootout and added an assist in the game. The win was just the second in the last seven games for the Bucks and it pushed the Rage to 1-3 on their current road trip.
Jeff Bes started the scoring with a power play goal midway through the first period, his 27th goal of the season. It was matched later in the frame by Colt King’s 11th of the season and first since January 6th. The score was 1-1 after one period.
The Bucks owned the second period scoring twice. Newcomer Derek Legault netted the first for Laredo and Serge Dube scored the second making the score 3-1 after two periods. Laredo had outshot the rage 22-16 through 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Rage came storming back started by a shorthanded goal from Nathan Rosychuk. Scott Wray scored the game-tying goal just over four minutes into the period leaving the game even where it would stay until the extra session and Desjardins’ winner.
Dustin Traylen earned the win making 28 saves and stopping five of six shooters in the shootout. He is now 17-6-1 on the season. Scott Reid took the SOL falling to 19-5-3.
Daymen Rycroft did not score a goal seeing his goal streak stop at 10 games.

Wichita 0 @ Austin 5
Miguel Beaudry made 24 saves earning the Ice Bats first shutout of the season. The win was Beaudry’s fifth straight and improved the Bats to 9-2-0 in their last 11 games. Five different goal scorers found the back of the net with defenseman John Neal’s first period goal serving as the game winner. Jon Horrell fell to 1-14-1 despite having a busy night making 54 saves. He turned away 21 shots in the first and third periods. With the win, Austin moves to within two points of a playoff spot.
Oklahoma City 4 @ Texas 5 (OT)
The Brahmas have been great in one goal games (13-4-1) and on Wednesday needed overtime to thwart the rally from the visiting Blazers. Tyler Skworchinski scored his second goal of the night in the overtime session propelling the Brahmas to their third straight win. The Blazers erased a 4-2 third period deficit but had to settle for just the one point. Kevin McLeod also had a pair of goals for the Brahmas and Michael Kaye netted two for OKC. David Cacciola earned the win, his third straight winning decision, making 44 saves. OKC outshot the Brahmas 48-28.
