Sundogs Take First Place Back in the SW Division
The Arizona Sundogs (30-17-5) reclaimed first place in the Southwest Division on Thursday night with a 6-5 road victory versus the Amarillo Gorillas (18-26-8). The game featured eight combined goals scored in the first period and a five point night from all-star Alex Leavitt (1-4=5). The win pushed the Sundogs two points ahead of the Odessa Jackalopes with each team having 12 games remaining.

Leavitt clicked along with line mates Cory Urquhart and Jason Visser combining for four goals and seven assists. The Sundogs league-best power play went over 25% with a 4 for 7 effort versus Amarillo.
The Gorillas never led but after falling behind 4-1 in the first period, Amarillo responded by pulling to within a goal with just less than five minutes remaining in regulation. The loss keeps the Gorillas one point behind Austin for the fifth and final Southern Conference playoff spot.
Marco Emond earned the win making 29 saves and Dan McWhinney took the loss stopping 25 shots.
Austin Sutter scored twice for Amarillo and the league’s leading rookie scorer, David Nimmo, had three helpers in the game.
