Brahmas Win Series Over RiverKings

Richland Hills, TX –The Texas Brahmas took advantage of two Scott Sheppard goals and 41 saves from Brett Jaeger to win their opening round best-of-three series versus the Mississippi RiverKings two games to one thanks to a 3-2 victory on Thursday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The Brahmas now advance to the Northern Conference semi finals and a date with the Governors’ Cup Champion Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
The Brahmas fell behind 1-0 after Ryan Held scored his first goal of the playoffs with a power play marker at the 5:52 mark of the first period. Texas would respond at the 6:57 mark with Sheppard scoring his first of the night followed by Anders Strome finding the back of the net in the final minute of the period giving the Brahmas a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes.
In the second period, Sheppard would be awarded a penalty shot and he made Sebastien Centomo pay by scoring his second goal of the game and the eventual game winner. The RiverKings would pull to within a goal with a shorthanded goal late in the game from Ryan Campbell . The RiverKings were a man down because of a double minor high sticking penalty taken by Louis Dumont.
Mississippi outshot the Brahmas 43-30 in the game as Jaeger improved to 2-0 in the playoffs with his second straight outstanding performance. Centomo stopped 27 shots and fell to 1-2 in the post-season.
The Brahmas will play at Bossier-Shreveport in game one of their series on Sunday at 5:05 PM (CST).
Notebook: Anders Strome’s goal gave him a point in every game of the series (2-1=3)…Derek Landmesser led the way for Mississippi with six shots on goal…Sheppard finished with seven shots and Tyler Skworchinski six for Texas…Texas killed 15 of 17 power plays in the series but scored just four PP goals on 27 chances.
