Laredo Bucks center Patrick Nilson and Austin Ice Bats netminder Peter Brady have been selected by the Central Hockey League as the recipients of the Sherwood CHL Player of the Month and Vaughn Goaltender of the Month awards for the month of October, 2003.
Nilson, an assigned player through the Bucks American Hockey League
affiliate in San Antonio, scored at least one goal in each of the Bucks five games in the Month of October, leading the club to an unblemished record of 5-0-0. Hailing from Balsta, Sweden, Nilson has registered at least a single point in each of Laredos seven games this season, and his seven goals are tied for the CHL lead. Included in his seven goals are one scored on the power play, and one shorthanded.
In Austin, netminder Peter Brady enjoyed three outstanding games as the Ice Bats started the season with three consecutive wins. In October victories over New Mexico (2-1), Bossier-Shreveport (3-2 SO) and Oklahoma City (4-2), Brady made 92 saves while facing 97 shots, posting a goals against average of just 1.62 and a save percentage of .948. The 26-year old Brady is a native of Cap Rouge, Quebec, and had 13 victories last season backing up CHL Goaltender of the Year Matt Barnes. Brady suffered a knee injury on October 25th, and has not returned to action since, with an undetermined expected return date.
