Arizona/Laredo Game Seven Box Score
Laredo, TX – The Arizona Sundogs earned their first trip to the Ray Miron President’s Cup Finals with a 6-1 victory in Game Seven of their best of seven conference finals series with the Laredo Bucks. The Sundogs will now face the defending President’s Cup Champion Colorado Eagles in the finals. The Bucks loss ends a string of four straight appearances in the finals for Laredo.
The CHL’s leading scorer during the regular season, Alex Leavitt, started the scoring halfway through the opening period with his fifth goal and league-leading 21st point of the post-season. Laredo answered with Alex Goupil tying the score at the 12:08 mark of the period making the score 1-1 after 20 minutes.
The only goal of the second period was scored by Chris Bartolone as Arizona outshot the Bucks 16-12 in the period but John Ceci was sharp keeping his team in it.
In the third period, the Sundogs erupted for four goals and put things away early on scoring twice in the first 1:50 of the frame. Jason Visser scored the first goal giving Arizona a 3-1 lead and it was followed 26 seconds later with a Tyler Liebel goal giving Arizona a three goal lead. Later in the period, Cory Urquhart connected on the power play for his 13th goal of the playoffs and his third point of the night. Steve Rymsha made it 6-1 as the Sundogs cruised to the victory and the berth in the finals.
Rob McVicar made 44 saves improving to 7-1 in the post-season. Ceci finished with 40 saves taking the loss.
Only Urquhart and Leavitt finished with multiple point night in the Sundogs balanced offensive attack.
