Gorillas hire new Director of Media Relations
Amarillo, TX 5/20/08 – The Amarillo Gorillas made a new addition to their front office Monday, bringing aboard Trent Kling to serve in the capacity of Media Relations Director for the upcoming season. Kling is to be primarily responsible for the release of news and events surrounding the Gorilla organization, and will serve as an assistant with the club’s corporate partnerships. In addition, the Wichita, Kansas native will perform play-by-play duties for the Gorillas during the 2008-09 season.
Kling’s broadcasts of Gorilla hockey will be heard on the team’s radio affiliate over the airwaves in the Amarillo area. The CHL Network is expected to use the radio broadcasts to augment Internet video coverage of the games as well.
“The Gorilla organization is excited to welcome Trent to Amarillo,” said Todd Chisnell, the Gorilla Vice President of Corporate Partnerships. “Trent brings a youthful attitude and lots of energy to the table and is looking forward to a bright future in Amarillo and the Central Hockey League.”
Kling arrives in Amarillo after five years in Kansas covering local sports ranging from football to volleyball. Although his post with the Gorillas is his first foray into the sport of hockey, the Pittsburg State University graduate has broadcasted over 250 sports events in his home state.
“I am extremely excited to be given this new opportunity,” Kling said Tuesday. “Having grown up a fan of the CHL brand of hockey, I look forward to helping the Gorilla franchise continue to bring excitement to the Amarillo region.”
The hire is the second in as many weeks for the franchise, who last week brought aboard veteran head coach Tom Coolen. Opening day in Amarillo is scheduled for October 18th, as the Gorillas look to return to the CHL playoffs after narrowly missing the postseason in 2007-08.
