Preparations are in full swing for the 2004 Central Hockey League All-Star Game January 22nd in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and balloting to select the starting lineups for each conference has begun. Each CHL Head Coach will participate, as well as a team public relations/broadcasting vote, and selected media members from across the league. All players listed on the ballots were submitted by member teams, with each club required to provide three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender for potential selection.
The remainder of the All-Star rosters will be selected by the All-Star Coaches, in conjunction with the CHLs Hockey operations department, and each team will be represented by a minimum of one player. Joining the All-Star teams will be a trainer, equipment manager, and broadcaster from each conference, as well as two lucky fans as part of the Dodge Be An All-Star sweepstakes.
Laredos Terry Ruskowski has already secured his bid as Southern All-Star Coach, while Bossier-Shreveports Scott Muscutt has the edge on coaching the Northern All-Stars, with Colorados Chris Stewart, Indianapolis Ken McRae and Memphis Jim Wiley still in contention. The coach with the highest winning percentage following completion of the CHLs two games on December 23rd will earn the selection.
Balloting will conclude on December 28th, with the starting lineups for each conference announced the following day. In early January the remainder of the All-Star Selections will be announced. Players not submitted as nominees may be still selected by the All-Star Coaches.
