The San Angelo Saints have closed the gap on Southwest Division leading Amarillo to just three points following a 4-1 win Thursday night at the Amarillo Civic Center. All-Stars Derek Booth, Chris Minard and Scott Reid all figured prominently in the sixth and final meeting of the season between the two clubs. Defenseman Booth had the game winning goal on the power play and added an assist, center Minard put the game out of reach late in the second period with his second shorthanded goal of the season, and goaltender Reid faced a barrage of 46 shots and only allowed Gorillas forward Henry Kuster to beat him with a power play marker.
In the five previous contests, the home team had emerged victorious, but with the win San Angelo claims the season series 4-2. San Angelo will try and further close Amarillos lead with home games against Laredo and Lubbock Friday and Saturday, while Amarillo will play road games at New Mexico and Odessa this weekend.
In other Thursday night CHL action, Corpus Christi snapped a three game losing streak by stopping visiting Austin 5-1, and Colorado stretched their Northwest Division lead to 14 points with a 6-3 win at Lubbock. Matt Noga paced the Rayz with a goal and three assists, while Brad Patterson scored his 9th and 10th goals of the season in Colorados victory.
