Bucks Pull Even with RGV in South Standings
Scoring the final four goals of the game, the Laredo Bucks (10-4-3) came up with a big road win on Wednesday night beating the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (10-7-3) by a final score of 4-3 at the Dodge Arena. The win pulls the Bucks even with the Bees in the Southern Conference with the two teams tied for third place, 25 points.
The Killer Bees took a first period lead with Jesse Bennefield scoring his first of two goals on the night at the 13:48 mark. Just under four minutes later, Joel Irving scored a power play goal (his fifth point in his last five games) giving the Bees a 2-0 lead after one period.
Bennefield would appear to put RGV on track to end their two-game slide (0-1-1) with his second of the night and league-leading 15th of the season scored at the 13:19 mark of the second period.
Laredo would answer back quickly though preventing RGV from taking all the momentum when Evan Schwabe scored his sixth goal of the season just 37 seconds after Bennefield’s goal.
Laredo pulled to within a goal a minute and a half into the third period with Maxime Lincourt scoring a power play goal and then tied the game at the 15:29 mark of the final frame with Schwabe’s second of the night.
The Bucks would pull the hearts out of the Bees and their fans by taking advantage of a late power play with Jeremy Swanson scoring his first goal of the season with just 2:40 left in the game.
Jean-Philippe Levasseur stopped 25 shot improving to 9-1-2 on the season. Andy Franck took the loss making 34 saves, he falls to 6-4-3 on the season.
