Jacks Close 2009 With 4-2 Win Over Texas
Jacks Win Streak Extended to Eight Games
(Odessa, TX) – The Odessa Jackalopes ended 2009 with a 4-2 win over the Texas Brahmas on Thursday at the Ector County Coliseum to extend their winning streak to eight games, tying a season high. Kory Karlander scored two goals in the win.
Odessa improved their record to 24-4-3 with the win. The best mark in franchise history through the end of December.
Odessa took control in the first period with a pair of goals during a 4-on-4 situation. Kory Karlander scored at 14:44 when Alex Dunn’s shot from the right circle bounced off the boards and in front of the net for Karlander’s 11th of the season. Dominic Leveille then scored at 16:25 with a wrist shot from the right circle that bounced off the post and in. Kenny Bernard and Dave Van Drunen added the assists. Bernard extended his point streak to five games with the helper. At the end of the first, Odessa led 2-0.
Both teams traded goals in the second period as Matt Burto put Texas on the board with a shorthanded, breakaway goal at 7:35. The shorthanded goal was the Brahmas’ 10th of the season to lead the CHL. At 13:40 Collin Circelli made it a two-goal again for the Jacks with his 15th of the season on a centering feed from behind net courtesy of Mike Ramsay. The Jackalopes led, 3-1, entering the break.
The teams traded goals again in the third as Scott Thauwald netted the second shorthanded goal of the game for Texas at 1:08. Karlander then scored his second of the game on the power play at 7:53 to make the score 4-2.
Juha Toivonen stopped 19 shots in net to earn his 11th win of the season.
