BEES SNAP WINLESS SKID WITH 5-3 WIN OVER BRAHMAS
HIDALGO, Texas—The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, lead by Jesse Bennefield (1-3-4) and goaltender Wylie Rogers’ 44 saves, snapped a four game winless streak by defeating the Texas Brahmas 5-3 Saturday night at Dodge Arena
Rio started the scoring with Bennefield connecting at the 8:29 mark in the first period, but Jordan Cameron tied things up for the Brahmas at 11:12 on a shorthanded goal to end the scoring in the period.
Aaron Lee came out firing early in the second; netting a shot just 41 seconds into the frame with helpers from Bennefield and Jay Hardwick. Zak McClellan followed with a power play goal at 9:11 to put the Bees up 3-1, but Justin Kinnunen put the Brahmas within one with a shorthanded goal at 16:05 going into the final period.
Luke Sellars tied things up at 2:06 on the power play with assists from Craig Minard and Elias Godoy, but Rio posted two more goals, the game-winner by Grant Goeckner-Zoeller at 5:47 and a power play goal by Daymen Rycroft at 8:17 to put the Bees up 5-3. Despite pulling goaltender Joe Palmer with 2:02 on the clock to get an extra skater, the Texas Brahmas were unable to overcome the two goal deficit giving the Bees the win.
Wylie Rogers captured the win in net, while Palmer suffered the loss with 18 saves between the pipes.
