+11 – The playoff leading plus/minus total of Rapid City Captain Luke Fritshaw who has a goal and two assists to go with his gaudy plus/minus. The Tisdale, Saskatchewan native is a +4 in the two games thus far in the North Finals vs. Bossier-Shreveport.
4 for 11 – The power play of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs so far through two games in the Northern Conference Finals versus Rapid City. The Mudbugs lead all remaining teams in the post-season converting 30% with the man advantage. Shawn Limpright leads the way with three PP goals. The ‘Bugs have two power play goals in each of their last three games.
7 – The number of times in eight games that the Odessa Jackalopes have scored the first goal including in both of the games so far versus Allen in the conference finals. Odessa is 5-2 when scoring first and have lost the only game they did not light the lamp before their opponent. Sebastien Thinel has scored two of the seven first strikes.
A Look Back
April 12, 2003 – On this date in 2006, the Austin Ice Bats advanced to the CHL Finals with a 3-2 Game Six win over the Laredo Bucks. Dan Price had his hand in all three Austin goals scoring the game winning goal and adding two assists. Matt Barnes made 35 saves in net earning the win for the Bats. Austin would lose in the Finals to the Memphis RiverKings. BOX SCORE
Series Notes
Third Card Wins Like the Others – The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs saw their third goaltender of the post-season get action in Sunday’s 4-3 win at Rapid City evening that series at one win apiece. Parker Van Buskirk is the latest masked man to see action for the ‘Bugs who had John DeCaro go down in the first period of game two of their conference semifinals series versus Colorado and then in game one versus Rapid City saw Ken Carroll injured enough that he could not play in game two. Van Buskirk made 26 saves in earning the victory. Carroll’s status is unknown and DeCaro is expected to be out for the remainder of the post-season.
Thinel’s Lead Shrinks – Odessa’s Sebastien Thinel remained on top of the post-season scoring list with 14 points (6-8=14) with a goal and an assist thus far in the conference finals series versus Allen. The league’s second-leading scorer during the regular season has scored in each of the Jacks last seven playoff games and now leads Rapid City’s Les Reaney by a point for the most in the playoffs. Reaney has two goals and two assists in his two contests versus the Mudbugs in the North Finals and leads all players in the post-season with three game winning goals.
Musitelli the Key? – Allen is 5-4 so far in the post-season and are currently tied at a win apiece with Odessa in the Southern Conference Finals. One consistent thing is that when forward Nino Musitelli scores, the Americans win. In all four Allen losses, the Macomb, Michigan native has been held in check without a single point, but in the five wins, Musitelli has thrived scoring five goals with six assists for 11 points (more than two points a game). Musitelli leads all Americans in playoff points.
Looking for the Touch – Rapid City is averaging more than four goals per game so far in the playoffs but two of their most dangerous weapons have yet to find the range in Brendon Hodge and Colt King. The duo combined for 51 goals during the regular season with King striking for 28 scores and Hodge for 23. So far in the Rush’s post-season surge, King has one assist in five games (missed one game due to a suspension) and Hodge has two helpers in six games.
