Americans Benn Making Noise in NHL Prospect Tourny
Gaining valuable experience, Allen Americans defenseman Jordie Benn is skating with the best of them representing the Dallas Stars at the 2010 NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan and holding his own. The Stars were the NHL affiliate of the Americans last season.
The Victoria, British Columbia native played in 45 games with the Southern Conference Champion Americans last season scoring nine goals with nine assists. He had 11 points (2-9=11) in 20 post-season games for Allen who fell to Rapid City in Game Six of the Presidents’ Cup Finals.
Benn was in the line-up for the Stars in Game Two of the tourney, a 4-1 win over St. Louis on Sunday, and made his presence known with a fight midway through the opening period. He finished with an even plus/minus rating and a shot on goal.
The Stars are 1-1 in the eight-team tournament that features the Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning in addition to the Stars and Blues.
Jordie’s brother Jamie celebrated a strong rookie season scoring 22 goals last season in 82 games with the Stars.
Dallas will play their third and final game on Tuesday versus Tampa.
