Three CHL teams had their home openers on Friday with Bloomington, Texas and Arizona all coming up with big wins, all by one goal.
Friday’s Summaries
Komets 1 at Sundogs 2 (OT)
The Sundogs and Komets played a defensive battle with both regulation goals coming in a 2:30 span of the late first period and early second period before the ‘Dogs triumphed in overtime thanks to a Mark Kolanos power play goal. Doug Groenestege finished with 28 saves in the game for Arizona.
Mallards 2 at Gems 3
The Gems gave up a couple of power play goals but battled back erasing a 2-1 deficit with goals from Paul Ferraro and Matt Szypura to win their second game in three tries this season. Jeff Jakaitis made 32 saves earning the win for Dayton.
Rush 2 at Eagles 5
A couple of new Eagles for the 2010-11 season stood tall on Friday as Scott May netted a hat trick and Kyle Jones made 30 saves.
Americans 5 at Mudbugs 3
Allen trailed 2-1 heading into the third period but rallied back scoring four times in the final frame to stay perfect on the season at 4-0-0. Tobias Whelan, Judd Blackwater and Jarret Lukin each scored one of the three unanswered for Allen.
Killer Bees 2 at Brahmas 3
The Brahmas dominated the shot board 45-18 and squeaked out a one-goal win taking their first ‘w’ of the season, Tyler Allen broke a one-all tie late in the third period and Matt Pierce had a pair of helpers.
Jackalopes 4 at PrairieThunder 5
Five different skaters scored for the PrairieThunder who improved to 2-0 on the season and won their home opener. Marco Emond made 27 saves to earn the win and Bill Bagron scored a goal and had an assist.
IceMen 5 at RiverKings 2
After trailing 2-1 after 20 minutes, the IceMen roared back scoring four unanswered goals with Mario Larocque scoring a goal with an assist and both Nick Schneider and John Dipace scoring third period shorthanded goals.
Thunder 1 at Mavericks 2
The Mavs improved to 11-0 all-time versus Wichita who remains winless on the young season at 0-3-0. Gerry Festa made 35 saves and Mike Berry broke a one-all tie in the second period improving the Missouri mark to 2-0-1 on the season.
