A pair of former CHL forward,
Rob Hisey and
Jean Bourbeau, have found a home in Connecticut with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. The Sound Tigers are the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders.
Hisey is off to a great start in Bridgeport leading the team in scoring with 11 points (3-8=11) in 10 games (has record a goal with six helpers in his last five games). The Oakville, Ontario native attended the camp of the Islanders prior to the start of the season and made people take notice thanks to his breakthrough 2009-10 season with the CHL’s Tulsa Oilers and the AHL’s Springfield Falcons.
The 5-9, 180-pound center was arguably the best player in the CHL through the league’s first 20 games. In 24 games with the Oilers, Hisey had 19 goals and 22 assists (his 19 goals led the league at the time of his call-up to Springfield). The forward was voted to start the 2010 CHL All-Star game but was unable to attend because of his roster presence in the AHL.
With the Falcons, Hisey was championed for his work ethic on a team that was struggling and spending time at the bottom of the standings in the league. Hisey scored 11 goals with 14 assists in 37 games with Springfield.
Bourbeau has a longer heritage in the CHL playing 110 regular season games and 24 playoff games with the Odessa Jackalopes, the CHL affiliate of the Islanders. His numbers with the Jacks consisted of 22 goals and 24 assists to go along with 170 penalty minutes.
The Bonnyville, Alberta native has dressed in 10 games with the Sound Tigers this season recording 19 penalty minutes.
Both players were undrafted and have made their way through hard work and dedication.
