ODESSA, Texas - The Colorado Eagles won their second game in as many nights against the Odessa Jackalopes, scoring five unanswered goals in a 5-1 victory. The win was Colorado's seventh straight, and All-Star goaltender Kyle Jones has been in net for each of them. Both Steve Haddon and Adam Chorneyko had a pair of goals.
Box Score
The teams traded power-play goals in the opening frame, with Odessa striking first for the second night in a row. At 4:31, Dominic Leveille put home his second whack at a rebound from the right side of the crease, chipping the puck over Jones' left pad. And at 15:49, Haddon cleaned up a rebound from the low slot after Kyle Peto sent a point shot on net with Alex Penner providing a screen on the doorstep.
The Jackalopes got into penalty trouble early in the second period, but Colorado couldn't capitalize on their man-advantage chances, including a full 5-on-3 within a four-minute, double-minor penalty. But shortly after their power play chances expired, the Eagles took the lead with the first of two goals by Chorneyko.
The red-hot rookie made it 2-1 at 10:14 when A.J. Hau found him storming down the slot for a snap-shot past David McKee. And just under two minutes later, Chorneyko made it 3-1 when Joe Grimaldi sent a long lead pass to Hau in the neutral zone for a rush up ice. Hau and Chorneyko drove the net and the rookie forwards worked a perfect deflection goal from the doorstep.
Haddon got his second goal 5:43 into the third with an unassisted shorthanded tally after stealing the puck in the neutral zone and blasting a shot past McKee from the top of the left circle. And at 10:19, Colorado put the game totally out of reach after Jason Beatty started a play from his own end, drove the net after dishing the puck to his forwards, and in doing so, made room for a cross-ice feed to Daymen Rycroft, who picked up his team-leading 26th goal of the season.
The Eagles will continue on the road with a game Tuesday night against the Quad City Mallards.
