Extending their playoff win streak to four games, the visiting Tulsa Oilers defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 5-4 in overtime on Friday night in Louisiana. Tom Dignard scored the game winning goal, while on the power play, giving Tulsa a 1-0 lead in the series.
In a back and forth game that saw a couple lead changes and several ties, Simon Mangos helped get his team the first lead with a goal at the 10:31 mark of the opening period.
Tulsa would snap back though scoring twice before the end of the period with Bates Battaglia and Jack Combs scoring goals for the Oilers.
A total of five goals were scored in the second period with the Mudbugs striking three times. Luke Lucyk extended the Tulsa lead to 3-1 at the 6:41 mark of the period before Bossier-Shreveport scored twice tying the game. Jeff Kyrzakos netted a power play goal and David Rutherford scored his third goal of the post-season knotting things at three.
Battaglia’s second goal of the night made it 4-3 but Justin Aikins tied it up just 21 seconds after Battaglia’s goal making the score 4-4 after two period.
There would be no scoring in the third period with Tulsa outshooting the Mudbugs 10-8 in the final frame.
In the overtime, Aikins was whistled for a hook at the 1:12 mark giving the Oilers the power play that led to the victory.
Tulsa finished the game 1 for 5 with the man advantage, while Bossier-Shreveport went 1 for 4.
Chad Costello had three helpers giving him a league-best 15 points (4-11=15) in the playoffs.
Trevor Cann made 37 saves improving to 4-1 in the post-season and Ryan Munce took the loss (1-2) after stopping 25 of 30 shots.
