SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) offer congratulations to veteran forward Louis Dumont on his appointment as new general manager of the Louisiana IceGators of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Dumont moves into the Louisiana front office after a lengthy and successful playing career that included playing his last five seasons as a member of the RiverKings.
The 38-year old Dumont's appointment as IceGators' general manager was announced at a news conference in Lafayette, Louisiana this afternoon.
"Louis represented the RiverKings as a class individual during his playing career here, both on-and-off the ice, and I'm sure he'll bring those same qualities to Louisiana," said RiverKings General Manager/Governor Ab Mattice. "We wish him all the best as he takes this next step in his hockey career."
The opportunity provides a return to Louisiana for Dumont, who played for the ECHL IceGators for three seasons between 1996-and-1999, part of a career that started in the Western Hockey League with Regina in 1990, moving to the ECHL in Tallahasse in 1994, and continued primarily in the ECHL before coming to the RiverKings in 2006.
With the RiverKings, Dumont played in 318 games and scored 99 goals for 282 points. He added ten goals for 35 points in 41 playoff games.
Dumont reached the 300 game plateau in the CHL and with the RiverKings this season on February 12th against Tulsa, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the game. The next night against Wichita (February 13th), the veteran forward scored his 1,300th career professional point with an assist.
Other career highlights with the RiverKings for Dumont included playing in his 1,100th career professional game on February 25th of this season against Tulsa. He appeared in his 1,000th career pro contest on November 20th, 2010 against Bossier-Shreveport.
He was the CHL's Best Penalty Killer in the league Best of the Best Poll this season and last season earned the league's Performance of the Year, for his four-goal performance in the third period of the December 4th, 2009 6-3 victory by Mississippi over the Colorado Eagles.
Dumont finishes fourth among all-time RiverKings in games played (318), goals (99), assists (183), and in points (282). He led the team in points (65) in the team's 2008-09 run to the CHL's Northeast Division championship and a berth in the Northern Conference playoff finals.
Louis was second in RiverKings all-time playoff appearances (41), fifth in playoff points (35), and fourth in playoff assissts (25).
Dumont was also active in the Mid-South community off-the-ice, in particular joining with local businessman Wayne Bartley as the catalysts for the RvierKings' Assists for Autism program, which offered fans the opportunity to pledge or contribute to efforts that backed autism education, awareness, and education programs in DeSoto County, the team's home location.
