Independence, MO — Brent Thiessen, Missouri Mavericks general manager and president, proved again Monday that his Central Hockey League team will always strive to improve on and off the ice while he finds a way to win over new fans with his wit and charm.
“This is the year of the Mavericks,” he said, opening a news conference before a crowd of well over 100 fans inside the Independence Events Center. “We beat the Heat in six games – oops, wrong Mavs.”
The fans broke up, as he referred to the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks’ upset victory over heavily favored Miami in the NBA Finals.
He then let the fans in attendance know that this year’s hometown hockey team means business.
