Blazers Score, Sign Team MVP Beausoleil

(Courtesy of the Oklahoma City Blazers) Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed forward Michel Beausoleil, Blazers head coach Doug Sauter announced today.

Beausoleil, a 5-10, 175-pound native of Montreal, Quebec was the Blazers leader in scoring last season with 69 points (45-24-69). His 45 goals also led the team and was good for second in the CHL behind Memphis RiverKings’ forward Don Parsons. Beausoleil’s 45 goals last season made him just the seventh player in franchise history to eclipse the 40-goal barrier. His efforts earned him a spot on the CHL’s Northern Conference All-Star squad as well as team MVP honors.

Beausoleil will attend the training camp of the Omaha Ak-sar-ben Knights of the American Hockey League before coming to Oklahoma City. The Knights are the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames.

“Mike has the potential to be the top goal scorer in our league,” said Sauter. “He has a great opportunity with Omaha. However, if he is unable to secure a permanent roster spot with Omaha, I know he will be a big part of our club. Last season, he showed he can play with a great amount of determination and proved he is an all-star in our league.”

The addition of Beausoleil brings the total number of players signed to nine. He joins captain Tyler Fleck, Jared Dumba, Garrett Prosofsky, Kahlil Thomas, Jason Goulet, Brad Herauf, Marty Standish and goaltender Sean Connors on the Blazers roster.

The Oklahoma City Blazers will kick off their 2005-06 campaign at home on Friday, October 21 against the Fort Worth Brahmas at 7:35 p.m. The Blazers will conclude their opening weekend on the road against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 p.m.
