Dickson Helps Mavs Break Out of Slump


MAVERICKS STUN ICEMEN WITH OVERTIME WIN
Dickson records hat trick including overtime winning goal

EVANSVILLE, Indiana – John-Scott Dickson recorded a hat trick and the Missouri Mavericks stunned the Evansville IceMen Sunday night with a 4-3 come-from-behind overtime win at Ford Center.  Mavericks’ forward Andrew Courtney scored with seven seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game and Dickson tallied his third goal of the game at the 3:04 mark of the overtime period to give the Mavericks the victory.  Dickson added an assist and had his first four-point game with the Mavericks.  Missouri travels home for a pair of games this week against the Laredo Bucks at Independence Events Center.

“That’s a big no quit, character win,” said Mavericks’ Head Coach Scott Hillman.  “It was great road win for our team, and we showed huge heart and character.”

The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead on Dickson’s first goal of the game at the 8:38 mark of the first period, but the IceMen answered nearly four minutes later.  Mike Sgroi scored for Evansville to tie the game at one through the first 20 minutes of the period.

Evansville scored two more goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead on goals by Josh Beaulieu and Philippe Plante, but the Mavericks didn’t quit.  Dickson scored his second of the game with just 1:28 remaining in the second period on a power play goal to cut the IceMen lead to 3-2 before the second intermission.

Missouri continued to pressure Evansville in the third period outshooting the IceMen 13-7 in the period, but it took nearly the entire period before the Mavericks scored the equalizer.  With goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson pulled in favor of the extra attacker, Courtney jammed home a centering pass with 7.5 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

After a tripping penalty to Philippe Plante, Dickson tallied the game-winning goal at the 3:04 mark of overtime to earn the hat trick and give the Mavericks a 4-3 win.

Missouri ended their winless streak at three games and nine different players scored in the game.  The Mavericks improved their road record to 9-3-2.
