Scott Hillman walked out of his office Saturday night at the Independence Events Center still trying to figure out what happened to his Missouri Mavericks following an 8-3 loss to Quad City.
Before he talked about the lopsided loss, he said, “Unbelievable.”
Was he talking about the outcome? Or perhaps the determination shown by the Mallards, who picked up three crucial points this weekend and now trail the third-place Mavericks by just one point (48-47) in the Turner Conference standings.
No, he was talking about the hometown fans, who were honored as the best in the CHL last season.
“Unbelievable, we score a goal when we’re down 5-0 and our fans went crazy,” Hillman said. “I looked around the arena and I didn’t see one person sitting down. Everyone was standing and cheering for the boys.
