Heading into the month of February, the CHL has had a banner year in having players move up to the American Hockey League (AHL). So far this season, 29 call-ups have given some of the young stars of the CHL a chance to showcase their skills and abilities at a higher level.
The Allen Americans lead the way with nine call-ups that affect seven different players, including three different goaltenders. Rio Grande Valley has had seven call-ups affecting three players.
Some of those players that have worn an AHL jersey this season have made an impact including Killer Bee’s forward David Marshall who has stuck with the San Antonio Rampage for 31 games scoring seven points (5-2=7). The Rampage are the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers. Marshall has played 11 games with RGV this season scoring eight goals with four assists.
Allen has had several defensemen see action in the AHL including Dylan King (Lake Erie), Trevor Ludwig (Syracuse), Mike Berube (Texas) and Scott Langdon (Lake Erie). Berube is still up with Texas and has played four games with the Stars accumulating 10 penalty minutes, while Langdon is still in Lake Erie totaling 23 penalty minutes with the Monsters.
The Americans have also seen three different goaltenders head to the AHL; Marco Cousineau (Syracuse), Rejean Beauchemin (San Antonio) and James Reid (Allen). Cousineau has won three of the four decisions he has had with the Crunch carrying a .908 save percentage and Beauchemin was just called-up this week by the Rampage.
Nine of the 14 CHL teams have had at least one call-up to the AHL.
