LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, fell to the Wichita Thunder 5-2.
The Laredo Bucks and the Wichita Thunder faced each other for the first time this season Saturday night. The Thunder has not visited Laredo since 2009-2010.
The Bucks were the first to get on the board when Erik Boisvert put the puck past the Wichita netminder from a give and go from Neil Trimm and Tyler Stitt. The goal came at 2:50 in the first period. Wichita battled back and notched two goals during the period, the first at 5:13 from Matt Robinson. The second goal was at 7:22 from RG Flath. The Bucks were outshot 9-7 in the first.
The Thunder got a goal from Chris Chappell only 28 seconds into the second period, giving Wichita a 3-1 lead. Adam Rivet dropped the gloves against RG Flath at 4:35 in the period, giving the Bucks a boost. A.J. Hau poked the puck into the net at 12:45, cutting the lead to only one goal. Neil Trimm earned his second assist of the night and Ryan Sparling also assisted on the goal. The Bucks were once again outshot 13-9 in the period.
The Thunder scored a powerplay goal at 10:38 to give them a 4-2 lead over the Bucks in the final period of play. The Bucks pulled Torrie Jung during the final minute of play but was unable to light the lamp. Wichita sealed the win, with an empty net goal with only 41 seconds left in the contest.
