MAVS DOMINATE ICEMEN IN GAME TWO, 7-1
Hogg and Llewellyn with big nights, Mavs take 2-0 series lead

EVANSVILLE, Indiana – The Missouri Mavericks took a 2-0 series lead in the Turner Conference Opening Round with an dominant 7-1 win over the Evansville IceMen Friday night at Ford Center in Evansville. Tristin Llewellyn had three assists in the game and Kris Hogg also notched three points on the night with a goal and two assists. Sebastien Thinel was the only other Maverick with multiple points in the game, tallying two assists. The seven goals by Missouri set a franchise record for goals in a playoff game. The Mavs and IceMen face off in game three Saturday night in Evansville before the series shifts back to Independence for game four.

“Unbelievable team effort,” Mavericks Head Coach Scott Hillman proclaimed after the victory, “We came out and executed the game plan from the first shift. We got a lot of good breaks, but we have to come out tomorrow and be ready for game three.”

Brandon Coccimiglio got the scoring started just 1:44 into regulation with an unassisted goal. The Mavs doubled their lead with eight minutes to go in the period on a power play goal from Kris Hogg. The goal was the first power play goal for the Mavericks this postseason and Hogg’s first professional playoff goal. Sebastien Thinel and Andrew Courtney assisted on the goal. The Mavericks extended their lead to 3-0 with two minutes to go in the opening period with a goal from Patrick Schafer. Hogg collected his second point of the night with an assist on the goal. Missouri outshot the IceMen 3-0 in the first period.

Pier-Olivier Pelletier replaced Bryan Gillis in net for the IceMen to start the second period. Neither team scored in the period, as the score remained 3-0 in favor of Missouri with the IceMen outshooting the Mavs 10-9 in the second period of play.

Dale Mahovsky netted the Mavs fourth goal of the game on a breakaway four minutes into the third period. Thinel collected his second assist of the night on Mahovsky’s tally. Todd Robinson got Evansville on the board with nine and a half minutes to go in regulation, but the Mavericks got three unanswered goals from Ed McGrane, Matt McCready and Brandon Smith to secure a 7-1 victory. BJ O’Brien relieved Charlie Effinger with three minutes remaining in regulation, but did not face any shots.

Defenseman Tristin Llewellyn recorded three assists in the victory and Sebastien Thinel and Kris Hogg turned in two-point performances. Charlie Effinger stopped 28 of 29 Evansville shots and was credited with the victory. The seven goals by the Mavs set a Mavs’ playoff record for goals in a game.

The Mavs and IceMen face off in game three tomorrow night in Evansville before returning home for game four on Monday night at Independence Events Center.
