Missouri Mavericks Advance to Turner Conference Finals
Mavs Move On After Sweep of Evansville
GLENDALE, AZ (April 3, 2012) – The Missouri Mavericks have advanced to the Turner Conference Finals after Monday night’s 3-1 victory over the Evansville IceMen ending their Opening Round best-of-7 series with a 4-0 series sweep. It will be the Mavericks first trip to the conference finals in just their third year as a franchise.

The Mavericks finished the regular season in third place in the Turner Conference with a 39-21-6 record and 84 points which was tied with Evansville who finished with a 40-22-4 mark (won the tiebreaker of total wins over Missouri). The Mavs went 4-1-1 during the regular season against the IceMen.
Missouri will await the winner of the Rapid City Rush/Fort Wayne Komets series which stands at one win apiece with Game 3 scheduled for Wednesday night in Fort Wayne. The series will run until at least Sunday when Game 5 is scheduled giving the Mavs an extended break from on-ice action.
The series win over Evansville marks the third straight year that Missouri has won its Opening Round series but the furthest they had advanced in the two previous seasons is to the conference semifinals. The Mavericks improve their all-time playoff record to 20-20.
During the four-game sweep of the IceMen, Missouri was led by goaltender Charlie Effinger (32-15-3 during the regular season) who won all four games while allowing just six goals (.958 save percentage). Veteran Sebastien Thinel led the offense with two goals, five assists and a +5 plus/minus rating.
Missouri is coached by third-year bench boss Scott Hillman who is 107-71-18 (.549 win percentage) in 196 regular season games with Missouri. Prior to joining the Mavericks as their head coach, Hillman won back-to-back regular season and playoff titles with the Knoxville Ice Bears of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
