Veteran Komets defenseman Jamie Lovell knows exactly what he is, a role player, and role players are often overlooked during the regular season. He also knows teams win with role players in the playoffs.
``Everyone simplifies their game, I think, because they know one mistake can make a difference in a game, a penalty, a power play or a turnover,'' Lovell said. ``You play hard, you play simply and things take care of themselves, and the hardest-working team wins most of the time. It's not about the most talent or the most skill. The littlest things are the biggest. The team that commits to the little things usually comes out on top.''
And that's why role players always play huge parts in winning playoff series. While everyone is focusing on stopping the stars, the lesser-known players have a chance to step up and make the biggest plays.
