Bossier-Shreveports Ken Carroll has today been named the Central Hockey Leagues Most Outstanding Goaltender for the 2005-2006 season. Carroll led all voting among CHL Coaches, Communications staff members and media members in each market, appearing on 22 of 50 submitted ballots. The award is Presented annually to the Central Hockey Leagues most outstanding goaltender, in memory of Scott Brower, former CHL goaltender and Corpus Christi employee.
In 31 appearances for the Northeast Division regular season champion Mudbugs, Carroll has compiled a record of 20-7-4 while registering a 2.31 goals against average, the third best mark in the CHL. Along with a .921 save percentage, Carroll has recorded four shutouts this season to give him a career total of 19, second only to the 22 posted by Rod Branch. Carrolls 20 victories in 2005-2006 have moved him into 6th place on the career CHL wins list with a total of 121.
Also selected as the Best Goaltender in the 2005-2006 CHL Best of the Best poll, Carroll earned both Most Outstanding Goaltender and Rookie of the Year honors in the 2000-2001 season, helping Bossier-Shreveport win their third straight Western Professional Hockey League championship prior to the merger with the CHL the following year.
A four-time All-Star, Carroll was named to the 2005-2006 All-CHL Team on Monday. Other finalists for Most Outstanding Goaltender honors this season included Colorados Paulo Colaiacovo, Laredos David Lemanowicz, Odessas Mike Gorman, Oklahoma Citys Sean Connors and Wichitas Sebastien Laplante. Gorman, the awards recipient in the 2001-2002 CHL season, finished second in voting with Lemanowicz third.
Later today the winner of the Most Outstanding Defenseman award will be announced, with Austins Aaron Schneekloth, Colorados Brad Williamson, Laredos Serge Dube, Memphis Derek Landmesser, Oklahoma Citys Tyler Fleck and Wichitas Daniel Tetrault appearing as finalists.
Friday both the 2005-2006 Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player award recipients will be announced. Austins Michael Tucciarone, Bossier-Shreveports Dale Lupul, Laredos Adam Rivet, Odessas Dominic Leveille, Rio Grande Valleys Jeff Mushaluk and Tulsas Jim Dahl are Rookie of the Year Finalists, with voters selecting the Most Valuable Player from a list including Amarillos Derek Hahn, Bossier-Shreveports Dan Wildfong, Colorados Greg Pankewicz, Odessas Sebastien Thinel, Wichitas Joe Blaznek and Youngstowns Jeff Christian.
