Koscielny Back With Cotton Kings

(Team Press Release) The Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced their first player signing for the 2006/2007 season, as goaltender Brett Koscielny has re-signed with the team.

“When healthy last season, Brett was more than capable of winning games for us, but we unfortunately did not give him goal support all the time,” said Cotton Kings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Chris Dashney. “He was recognized within the league last season with league awards and we look for him to build on that success in his second pro season.”

Koscielny (koh-sell-nee) turned heads in training camp, earning a spot on the Kings roster, and then turned the heads of the CHL. In the first full month of the season, Koscielny went 4-1-0 allowing just 7 goals in five games to claim the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Month for November. He completed the season with 10-12-2 record in 26 games. Koscielny ranked sixth in the CHL with a team leading 2.55 GAA and ranked eighth with a team best save percentage of 92.1%. “Killer” closed out the season on March 26th with a franchise best 56-save performance at Amarillo, which included 24 saves in the third period (season high for a period). Koscielny, who co-led the team in consecutive wins with three, was involved in the “top three stars” selection in 12 of 26 games played to lead the team with 36 “star points.”

The Kings netminder turned pro after closing out a junior career with the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). The 21 year-old goaltender was the MJHL’s MVP runner up and earned MJHL “Top Goaltender” and “First Team All-Star” honors after posting a 28-17-3 record with a 2.78 GAA and 92.5% save percentage in the 04/05 season. The 28 wins ranked tied for second in the MJHL and tied for tenth in all of Canadian “Jr. A” hockey, and the 92.5% save percentage led the MJHL (ranked sixth in all Canadian “Jr.A” hockey). The Brandon, Manitoba native and product of the Brandon AAA Midget Wheat Kings started his junior career in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) with the Flin Flon Bombers during the 02/03 season. The 5’11 205-pound second-year pro was traded midway through the 03/04 season from Flin Flon to Dauphin.

Koscielny is the first player announced for the 06/07 Cotton Kings season. With 26 games of professional experience, Koscielny is classified as a developmental player (128 games or less played).
