(Team Press Release) The Oklahoma City Blazers signed goaltender Sean Connors, Blazers head coach Doug Sauter announced Wednesday. Connors, a 6-1, 170-pound native of Okotoks, Alberta is entering his fourth season as a professional. Last season, Connors was the workhorse for the Blazers between the pipes appearing in a franchise record 48 contests. He posted a 26-16-6 record, 3.24 goals against average and .909 saves percentage, earning him a spot on the Northern Conference All-Star roster. For his efforts, he was voted the Blazers Most Valuable Player by fans and his teammates.
The 24-year old Connors is poised to become a prominent member in the Blazers record books. Entering the 06-07 season, he ranks second in most goaltender-related categories on the Blazers all-time list. That includes ranking second in minutes played (6,707), total saves (3,419) and games played (118) and fifth in wins (55).
Connors did everything we asked him to do last season, said Sauter. The departure of Centomo forced him to start 22 straight games for our club. Now that he is entering his fourth season with the Blazers, he knows what to expect from our organization and the league. I expect him to play well again this season.
The addition of Connors brings the number of players signed for the 06-07 season to five. Connors joins veterans Tyler Fleck and Marty Standish as well as defenseman Mike Burgoyne and forward Graham Dearle. The Blazers will open their historic 15th season at home Friday, October 20 at the Ford Center at 7:35 p.m.
